Character Guides - Tara - Abilities, Siphon - May 30, 2020

Reaper Shield

Pros

Tara starts with Reaper Shield by default in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon. It prevents death (as in anything that would drop a character's HP to zero would be prevented) to Tara and any nearby allies for 8 seconds (16 seconds with the Earth Field Effect active). The passives to reach 8 seconds requires no Augmentor investment.

Cons

The area of effect is rather small, so while it can protect allies from death, Tara has to keep on them to do so -- otherwise, it is really more of a death protection for Tara.

Mindcloud

Pros

Tara starts with Mindcloud by default in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon. Mindcloud inflicts all enemies with Cooldown Add (11 seconds with passives that require no Augmentor investment), which makes their active cooldowns take longer to recover. With the Earth Field Effect active and all relevant passives obtained, Mindcloud also deals Attack x 2 damage and Stun to all enemies, on top of the Cooldown Add.

Cons

There are not any particular negatives to Mindcloud -- it may require the Earth Field Effect to be used optimally, but its easy to use ability disabling power that affects all enemies is hard to find problems with. It does have a 20 second cooldown, meaning that without Restrict Axe and Backhand/Skill Strike, enemies can eventually get their abilities back.

Chasm

Pros

Maxed out, Chasm places a pit in front of Tara that deals up to Attack x 6 damage with all passives and with a cooldown of 15 seconds. Where it really shines, and is the main reason to have Tara aim to learn Chasm, is that during the Earth Field Effect combined with Path to Hell/Styxpath, Chasm has an Instant Death threshold of 70% (up to 80% with the Ceres Cleaver), which is capable of ending many battles incredibly early.

Cons

Unless the Earth Field Effect is active, Chasm's usefulness is lessened. It has decent damage and cooldown, but not enough to warrant full investment in, and is only really worth it for Earth Field Effect builds.

Earthquake

Pros

Earthquake deals damage to all enemies in play for 5 seconds, at a rate of Attack x 1.5 every second with all passives. Being able to deal damage to enemies regardless of their position is a rare ability type, but the main purpose of Earthquake is to use it with the Earth Field Effect to create 6 Chasms for even wider spread damage and Instant Death.

Cons

Earthquake's damage and all-enemy range is not enough on its own to warrant investment against its cooldown of 25 seconds with all passives. Its optimal use is to provide additional Instant Death Chasms during the Earth Field Effect, so teams that do not focus on this will find less use.

Path to Hell

Pros

Path to Hell provides Instant Death at a threshold of 15% (a value boosted during the Earth Field Effect by 3 per Chasm it touches) and it raises the Instant Death threshold of Chasm/Bottomless Pit from 30% to 70%.

Cons

Path to Hell is the least useful of Tara's Instant Death abilities -- Decapitate has a higher threshold and Mind Field Effect influence, and Chasm can deal damage and hit MUCH higher thresholds. Path to Hell's main purpose is to combine with Chasm and Earthquake by powering up Chasms to complete Tara's high Instant Death threshold build.
